Semestre Assignment: Understanding / Searching / Exploring Tire
In this first semestre's project, I expected to design a history atelier at a given site in Tire, İzmir. Tire is an Aegean town that has been continuously inhabited beginnig from the early ages. The history of the city occured from Hittite, Phrygians, Lydia, Roman, Byzantium periods and Aydınoğulları Beyliği, Ottoman and The Republic of Turkey. Tire has a rich architectural and cultural history. Today, the city is in the urban development process with its historical heritage.
Moreover, the city government believes that the city should be mentioned in the World Heritage List. Therefore, there is a need to provide a public awareness in Tire ro achieve successful and efficient application process that increases the value of history of the settlement.
The spatial engagement of public and private activities, spatial relations, spatial variations in exhibition and information spaces, integration with the urban context has discussed and defined in stuido works.
Considering the historical richness of Tire and the public awareness, aims of design can be listed as:
Providing research sources to history researchers
Raising the public awareness of history of Tire
Spreading the consciousness of history of Tire to people and helping them to discover their own area where they live.
We all use technology everyday from communicating to socialing but the most, sharing knowledge and learning. Technologic revolution had extremely speed up learning and getting information wherever we are in. Whenever we want to learn something that in our minds we look for in internet. Because it is more accesible from everywhere.
Because of being accesible from everywhere of information make it surround ourselves and make us to feel like we are in an information cage. That's why I wanted to design a place for making researches about Tire with the information technology which is the use of computers to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data or information, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. This design of digital shell lets researchers and public to do their researches about Tire quickly and easily.
This digital research cage has lots of LED lights on its surface. Where the grids are become more dense and close to each other, automatically a screen occours which lets researcher to do visual researchs. Also two audiorooms which sees these screens designed to do audio researches. These audio documents can be entegrated to the screens.
And library modules lets to read documents as articles, newspapers etc. Also these documents can be seen on screens and connects to audirooms with audio documents.
